Christmas Lights at Butchart Gardens

The Butchart Gardens light-up for Christmas.  Enjoy the tens of thousands of lights and festive decorations throughout the gardens.  The Christmas light displays will be up until January 6th, 2011.

Outdoor entertainment includes Traditional Carollers and The Festive Brass and an ice rink.

Navy Lighting Contest 2010

The Canadian Forces Base in Esquimalt is hosting the 23rd Annual Navy Lighting Contest in support of the Mustard Seed Food Bank.  All visitors will be given a bus tour through CFB Esquimalt to view the Christmas lights on the buildings and ships.  The tour is 25 minutes long and at the end  you vote for your favourite building or ship.

CFB Esquimalt is accepting either cash or non-perishable foot items for the Mustard Seed Food Bank.

The 23rd Annual Navy Lighting Contest tours are nightly from 6-9 pm from December 14th to December 24th.

The Nutcracker at McPherson Playhouse

This holiday season, enjoy the ultimate holiday treat by attending the Nutcracker Ballet at the McPherson Playhouse in Victoria, BC.  The Nutcracker Suite & Sugar Plum Fair is a performance for all ages.

Victoria Festival of Trees

The Fairmont Empress Hotel hosts Victoria’s Festival of Trees each year during the Christmas season.  The Festival of Trees is a fundraiser for the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation.  In 2009, Victoria Festival of Trees raised $109,000.00 for the BC Children’s Hospital and the Campaign for a new BC children’s hospital.

The Festival of Trees is now open to the public until January 3, 2011.  You can vote for your favourite tree on line by making a $2 donation.  The tree that receives the most votes will win the People’s Choice Award.

A Touch of Saltspring Christmas Show

Panorama Recreation Centre is hosting A Touch of Saltspring Christmas Show 2010 this weekend, December 3rd-5th.  This is a great Craft and Art show to start your Christmas Shopping!  A Touch of Saltspring features over 230 crafters and artisans of Saltspring, BC and Alberta.

Van Isle Marina’s Christmas Toy Drive!

Van Isle Marina is collecting toys this Christmas for the Kiwanis Toy Drive.  All donated toys will go to families around the Sidney area for Christmas.  If you would like to participate in VIM’s Toy Drive, you can drop off toys at the main office.

Toy Drive Requirements:

  • All toys must be unwrapped
  • Please donate packaged, new toys
  • No stuffed toys allowed due to possible allergies
  • Drop-off Deadline Monday December 13th
  • Age group 0-13
    • A high demand for age groups 0-3 and 10-13

Help us make this Christmas special for all children by donating toys.

Truck Light Parade & Food Drive

This Saturday December 4th starting at 5:45 pm, the IEOA Truck Light Parade will drive through downtown Victoria.  The Truck Light Parade route will begin at Ogden Point at 5:45 pm and travel along Dallas Road, through Oak Bay and then come through downtown Victoria on Government Street.  Please look at the map for full details on the route.

This year the IEOA Truck Light Parade is collecting non-perishable food items.  Food donations from the event go to support the Mustard Seed Food Bank and the West Shore Service Clubs Christmas Hamper Fund Society.

During the winter season, Van Isle Marina offers On-Call Snow Removal job positions.  A full job description is available on our website under Contact Us.  If you are interested in joining the On-Call Snow Removal Crew, please read the job description and contact the Marina Services Representatives at 250-656-1138.

Water

During freezing temperatures the water is shut off on all docks.  Please follow weather forecasts and ensure your tanks are full.

Snow

In the event of a snowfall, snow will be cleared from the parking lots and docks (but not boathouses).  During the winter, always beware of ice and frost.
