Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup Results
The 2011 results for the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup have now been posted. The shoreline cleanup was a national event with people participating from the West Coast of British Columbia, to the East Coast of Prince Edward Island and up in the North with Nunavut, Northwest Territories and the Yukon all joining in to make our waters and shoreline cleaner.
2011 Results:
- 3,144 km – distance cleaned
- 143,737 kg – weight of litter removed
Top 5 Litter Items:
- 351,238 – cigarette butts
- 110,018 – food wrappers
- 71,200 plastic bags
- 65,220 – caps and lids
- 39,308 – beverage bottles (plastic)
Registration for the 2012 Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup will open in the Spring. Help keep our water and shorelines clean this year by getting your work to coordinate a site cleanup or by getting personally involved yourself.
