Marina Update
Earlier today, Van Isle Marina experienced a significant fire involving three power yachts. Despite extensive emergency response efforts, the vessels were lost and subsequently sank.
We are deeply relieved to confirm that no one was onboard at the time and that no injuries occurred.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the Sidney Fire Department, North Saanich Fire Department, Central Saanich Fire Department, Sidney RCMP, the Canadian Coast Guard, and Western Canada Marine Response Corporation for their rapid, professional, and coordinated response. Marine fire response trailers were deployed early, and the combined efforts of all agencies played a critical role in containing the fire and preventing further impact.
Fuel containment and surface cleanup are actively underway, with environmental protection as a top priority. Salvage planning is in progress and will proceed in close coordination with the appropriate authorities to safely remove the vessels and debris.
All affected boat owners have been contacted. We also thank West Coast Grill and our marina team for their support of boaters during temporary dock closures.
At this time, there is no ongoing risk to public safety.
Our thoughts are with the affected owners, and we appreciate the patience and understanding of our marina community as this work continues.
